Vacancy: Director of Studies
Churchill House School of English Language, Ramsgate, Kent

Churchill House are looking for experienced, qualified Directors of Studies for summer centres in the UK. The Churchill House School of English Language is a long-established, British Council accredited English language school with many years’ experience in running successful Summer Centres.

Churchill House welcome job applications from talented and experienced Directors of Studies for positions in their summer centres. Directors of Studies are responsible for the effective implementation of the academic programme, but also play a key role in the overall management of the centre, working as part of a management team.

The Director of Studies (DOS) is in charge of the academics and academic team (TEFL teachers). They ensure that students are classed appropriately, and placed in the right level with similar ages and different nationalities. They ensure the teachers prepare for their lessons to a high standard. They are responsible for observing the teachers at least twice during their employment, and for giving constructive feedback of the observation. They aid the teachers in their schemes of work and lesson planning and hold workshops for the teachers once a week. These workshops should relate to something that has come up through their observations and they feel needs addressing, or some requested input by teachers. The DOS must also be highly energetic, personable, well organised, good at multi-tasking and have to work well under pressure.

  • Qualifications:
  • • Degree level or above education
  • • Recognised TEFL qualification: DELTA, DipTESOL, MA TESOL (or British Council recognised TEFLQ equivalents)
  • • Good basic IT skills (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • • Previous residential summer school experience.
  • • EU national preferred EU national preferred.

All candidates will be required to hold or undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or provide a letter of Good Conduct from their local police.

Compensation

Directors of Studies: Competitive rates plus holiday pay
Compensation will range from £620 to £720, dependent on qualifications, experience as well as the sensitivity and complexity of the centre.
